1999-2000 UB-AAPS Student Chapter Events:
Identified below are a number of activities that are being sponsored
or promoted by the UB-AAPS Student Chapter. Throughout the semester
a variety of individuals have been invited to informally meet
with the student chapter over lunch. The purpose of the UB-AAPS
Luncheons is to provide an informal opportunity for UB-AAPS Chapter
members and prospective members to meet with pharmaceutical scientists
from academia, industry, and governmental agencies. These meetings
provided a forum for speakers to discuss their research interests
and the various scientific and employment opportunities that exist
for pharmaceutical scientists. Additionally, chapter members are
encouraged to attend the UB Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences
weekly Pharmaceutical Sciences Seminar, Thursdays 4:00 - 5:15
pm, to listen to formal presentations on a variety of topics related
to pharmaceutical sciences. Note, individuals that will also be
presenting at the Pharmaceutical Sciences Department Seminar are
also identified astrix (*).
- *March 25, 1999 -- Lunch 12:00-1:30 pm in Cooke 508 and PHC Seminar 4:00-5:15 pm
James Baxter, Pharm.D., Ph.D. Pfizer Central Research Inc. over lunch. Dr. Baxter will discuss Pfizer's research and discovery programs and employment
opportunities that exists for pharmaceutical scientists. At 4:00 pm
all members are invited to attend the Department of Pharmaceutics Seminar where Dr. Baxter will presenting current research being conduced at Pfizer.

provided.
- September 7, 1999 -- Introduction and welcoming incoming undergraduate and graduate pharmaceutics
students to the AAPS
- September 8, 1999 -- Annual Election for Student Chapter Offices at 12:30 pm in Cooke 508
- September 24, 1999 -- Executive Committee Meeting at 9:00 am, Eino Nelson Memorial Library (Cooke 540)
- November 2, 1999 -- Meet Dr. Ho-Leung Fung, Professor and Chair Department of Pharmaceutics, University
at Buffalo. At 12:00 pm in Cooke 508.
Introduction to AAPS, benefits of membership, and its relationships with
the pharmaceutical industry, universities, and governmental regulator agencies.
Anyone interested in learning more about the UB-AAPS Student Chapter is invited
to attend. Food and refreshments provided.

Joseph Balthazar, Ph.D., Assistant Professor Department of Pharmaceutics, University at Buffalo. As a new faculty member, Dr. Balthazar will describe his research interests and a career in academia.
